MOUNTAIN RAILWAYS The Railway Lines which are constructed in Mountainous regions of India is known as Mountain Railways of India . These are narrow gauge trains . UNESCO has designated the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, and the Kalka-Shimla Railway as World Heritage Sites . Darjeeling Himalyan Railways The small-gauge railway, nicknamed " toy train " because of its diminutive size , was established in 1881 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 . It runs for 78 kilometers between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal .
